Sarah’s Story
Sarah is a student at NKU studying Anthropology. This is the story of her experience with the Wesley Foundation…
“I know God is up to something at NKU and that I am a part of it. I see evidence of God working in my life every day, whether it is in the trusting smile of a refugee child, the new life sprouting from a planted seed, or in the humble moments of a shared prayer. God is calling me into a deep relationship with Him, and this past year I have grown in so many ways. The Wesley Foundation has given me more community than I had ever expected. Through it I’ve been given the support, love, and guidance to try to live my calling and grow as a child of God.
At first I thought Starbucks was an unusual place to hold a group study, but after a while I realized that it fits. In this completely modern setting we were studying something so ancient, yet it helped us to bring the message into our lives and relate it to the crazy world we were surrounded by. It seemed that every week I would meet more and more people, all my brothers and sisters in Christ. There were some days where our small group would multiply as we would pull up chairs and make room for interested spectators or friends. On days like these, we would be sitting elbow to elbow in this little corner of Starbucks, sharing our Bibles, our thoughts, and our lives; all in the profound presence of God. This was community, and I was a part of it.
We all come from different places and have different callings, yet we are always there for each other if we need help or support of any kind. I’ve been called to serve the refugees in Cincinnati and every time I’ve asked for help with something I would always have a community of excited volunteers or would be introduced to someone who would have amazing connections to benefit the people. I realized that God isn’t calling me to do something on my own, but to become a part of something bigger than I will ever know.”
