Worship Experiment

by ak March 11, 2012 » Add the first comment.

We gathered on February 26th in an old classroom in the back of St. Elizabeth’s in Norwood, Ohio and made music.  About a dozen NKU students and friends engaged in a Worship Experiment.  Our goal was to create a communal worship experience that was n0n-scripted and improvisational.  We also desired for the whole thing to [...] Read more »

We had a great time of worship and reflection last night at NKU!   Our mission together is to grow followers of Jesus Christ who influence their social networks for the renewal of the earth.  We talked about our personal and collective mission(s) last week and this week we drilled down into what it might mean for us to “grow [...] Read more »

One of the wonderful facets of our Manuscript Project that we started on our retreat was the worship that flowed out of our time together. We ate, created art, played music (wash, rinse, repeat).  All of it was worship and it emerged out of our time, our place, and our relationships with one another. Thanks [...] Read more »

Guest blog post by Rev. David Johnston, WF Board member and pastor of Butler/Concord UMC The Wesley Foundation at NKU gathered for a two night retreat for a collaborative and creative project: illuminating the Gospel according to Mark.  The project was to write the gospel out by hand and “illuminate” it through panels, marginalia, and intricate first letters to sections.  The idea came from the practice of scribes [...] Read more »

Guest blog post by Rev. David Johnston, WF Board member and pastor of Butler/Concord UMC If I had to summarize what God is up to at the Wesley Foundation at Northern Kentucky University (WF@NKU) in a phrase it would be: God is capturing the imaginations of a new generation with the beauty of the gospel. I’ve hesitated to share much about this project.  It’s a deeply creative endeavor that has needed time to incubate.  But the incubation is soon to be over and we’re about to birth this baby! This week a group of about a dozen students are gathering in scenic Butler, KY to create an illuminated manuscript.  What’s [...] Read more »

A Missional Answer

by ak January 31, 2011 » Add the first comment.

Every once in a while someone will ask, “What does the Wesley Foundation actually do?”  Great question.  Glad you asked.  Well here’s an answer… in two formats. The missonal answer is that we grow followers of Jesus Christ who influence their social networks for the renewal of the earth.  To do that we foster hospitality, community, [...] Read more »

Over the next couple months several students and I will be visiting churches in Northern Kentucky and Louisville. We’ll be sharing about the work of the Wesley Foundation, preaching sermons, offering hospitality (in the form of a latte), and leading worship. If you’d like the Wesley Foundation @ NKU to visit your church, UMW, [...] Read more »

I read once that if you want vegetables, plant a vegetable garden.  If you want flowers, plant a flower garden.  And if you want community, plant a community garden.  That’s exactly what we’ve been doing as a Wesley Foundation. As Spring slowly approaches we are continuing our work with the Northern Kentucky Community Gardens.  Last [...] Read more »

Formed

A couple years ago a group of campus ministers, intentional community leaders, and pastors started dreaming of a spiritual formation process that would engage students and young (and not so young) adults.  We wanted something that was holistic, practical, accessible, and deep.  Those conversations led to Formed, a curriculum for Christlikeness, a 10 month discipleship [...] Read more »
