Fellow Followers & Friends,
We’re back in school and getting back in the groove of campus life together. I’ve very excited about what God is up to on campus this semester! You’ve probably seen our tag line, “Following in the Way of Jesus” on our Wesley Foundation materials. For us this is more than just a mildly clever saying, it’s what drives and forms our campus ministry at NKU.
We exist to grow followers of Jesus Christ who influence their social networks for the renewal of the earth. This following Jesus thing is what we’re about. It’s why we do what we do. Here are 4 ways that we’re endeavoring to follow Jesus in this new school year:
1. We’re trying an experiment of reading The Year of Living like Jesus by Ed Dobson and the Gospels with a students. We meet Thursdays at Noon at Starbucks on campus. Our goal is to read a chapter of the book and a Gospel per month. Feel free to join us anytime! Check out this video about the book –
2. If you want to go even deeper in your faith this year then I encourage you to check out Formed. It is a curriculum, teaching series, and prayerbook that I have been working on with a group of friends over the last couple years. We’re launching our beta-testing first year this weekend with an event about Soul Keeping. Check out the whole deal here – www.formed.cc and the event here and Facebook Page here. I would LOVE for any of you to join in at any level you are able. If you are interested let me know and we’ll talk more.
3. We continue our work with the NKY Community Gardens. We had a good first year, despite poor soil and adverse weather. We’re in harvest-mode now and are enjoying some wonderful tomatoes! We’re making plans for next year and ways to improve the soil, deter deer, engage the community, and share the bounty.
4. Last week during Welcome Week we served just about 500 lattes and espressos to students at NKU! We have a growing group of Baristas who are committed to serving radical hospitality along with every cup of fair trade, handcrafted coffee. Extra special thanks to fellow campus minister Chris Bean, La Terza Coffee Roasters and the Espresso Guild that provided the beans and machines to make it all happen.
Those are four of the ways we’re trying to follow Jesus. We’re also working on starting another Bible study group, a Worship gathering night (possibly on Sundays), and mission and service learning trips for the future. I keep saying that God is up to something at NKU… and I am so honored that the Wesley Foundation gets to be a part of it!
Follow On,
Aaron
